I am a philosopher working mostly in ethics, including meta-ethics, moral psychology, and animal ethics, and the application of theoretical questions to our social and political lives. I'm interested in what it means to live a good life and how to achieve it in practice - within and without the study.
The two philosophers whose work I have been exploring the most in the past years are Iris Murdoch and Simone Weil. Beyond ethics, I am also interested in literature, translation, spiritual traditions (including Eastern) and mysticism. Currently, I'm working on a Marie Sklodowska Curie project on 'moral impossibility' that I'm very excited about. This work engages with philosophers such as Raimond Gaita, Bernard Williams, Cora Diamond, Harry Frankfurt and many others. See more at www.moralimpossibilty.com As of 2024, I am Associate Editor at the The Journal of Ethics When I'm not ruminating about the good, I like spending time with my cat Jean and being in the water, swimming, scubadiving, and especially freediving. (I used to publish under 'Silvia Panizza' until 2019 when I added my mother's last name. For some reflections on the (public) reasons, see this blog post) Contacts
